Embarkation - San Francisco, California

The bridge connects San Francisco to California’s northern counties. With its tremendous 746-foot tall towers, sweeping main cables, signature international orange color, and Art Deco styling, it is a sensory experience featuring color, light and sound.

San Francisco, California, USA

Finally, today, we embarked on Holland America's M.S. Amsterdam from all corners of North America to begin our journey together. For most of us arriving from colder climates, the weather was nippy and didn't provide a warm welcome to our cruise. One thing for sure, through out this cruise, will be warm, tropical climate.

The climax today is culmination of having driven all the way from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to reach our ship in San Francisco. No more miserable over- caffeinated moments in the car, listening to some music and trying to keep awake. After checking-in, we're no longer trying to push ourselves and hurry. We're finally there, on -board the ship!

Hooray!

Our room Is on the third deck which make it easy for viewing as the ships promenade is also located on same deck. That make sit easy for running outside to catch the early glimpse of sunrise or last stray of sunset. It is also very good for positioning oneself whenever we arrive at port stops and there are welcome ceremony intended for the ship and passengers.

At 4:15 p.m we attended the mandatory Passenger Safety Emergency Drill and then rushed back to the room. We were both beat after driving 880 miles for two days. From our cabin window, I took a glimpse of the San Francisco Golden Gate bridge now looking so mysterious with fog all around it. We called it a day and went to sleep early. Tomorrow is a sea day so there's plenty of time to recuperate.
