Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, United States Thursday April 30, 2015
From Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Jan 5, 2015, the cruise spanned 114 days and called at 45 ports in 25 countries on six (6) continents. Highlights of our World Cruise journey include 11 overnight calls in some of the world’s most exciting cities, transits of the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal, crossing the equator and International Dateline, visits to UNESCO World heritage site, evening theme balls, local entertainment and a host of other activities.
Following Amsterdam’s departure from Fort Lauderdale, the ship took a westerly course from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean via a daylight transit of the Panama Canal. Once the ship reached the South Pacific, guests enjoyed an overnight call at Papeete, French Polynesia. Amsterdam explored six Polynesian islands before heading to New Zealand for an overnight call at Auckland.
Amsterdam then sailed west along the southern coast of Australia after an overnight call at Sydney. Extra time in the port allowed for an evening at the Sydney Opera House, the opportunity to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge or an overland tour to Ayers Rock. We also had extra time Down Under with overnights at Adelaide and Perth (Fremantle). The Australia exploration was enhanced with additional calls at Melbourne, Albany and Geraldton.
After going around Australia, the ship made its way to Asia with an overnight call at Bali, Indonesia, before touching the island of Java. Singapore was the next overnight call, as well as the departure point for an overland tour to Cambodia and Angkor Wat.
Amsterdam continued its northwesterly course with calls at Malaysia and Thailand before an overnight call at Thilawa (Rangoon), Myanmar. The ship visited Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Cochin, India, before overnight calls at Mumbai (Bombay), India, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. From Mumbai, guests were able to go overland to visit the Taj Mahal.
Following calls in Oman, Egypt and Jordan, Amsterdam transited the Suez Canal on its way to the Mediterranean. Guests explored 13 ports in Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal, including an overnight call at Piraeus (Athens), Greece, before a leisurely Atlantic crossing and returning to Fort Lauderdale.
