Singapore Wednesday March 4, 2015

Cast aside your vision of squeaky clean city, Singapore defies stereo type and instead defines a mixture of people- Chinese, Malay, Indian, Arabs and Europeans. The City worships it squeaky clean image and even embraces a catchphrase, Singapore is a Fine City.”

To help maintain its individuality. The various cuisines, the layers of history from colonialism to federation with Malaysia to independence. It is comfortable with its high tech image

We've come back to Singapore several times now since we left in 1998. Each time we come, we always visits the Ghim Moh hawker to see Bert's barber, Mr. Yap. Our friend Peter dutifully brings us all the time. Ghim Moh is said to have the best char keow tay noodles. The food at the hawkers are savory and safe. You can find Malay food, Hookien food, Nonya and Indian.

At the tropical fruit stand, it has papaya, watermelon, honeydew, sugarcane, coconuts, starfruit, soursop, banana, oranges and kiwi. Would you like it sliced or juiced? The range of offerings from are guaranteed to make one as happy as a lark!

Full from our lunch, we go to Marina Bay which is must for anyone visiting Singapore.

Each time we come to Singapore, something is changed, improved and perfected. And each time, we are full of admiration. The City that we love and left did not stand still waiting for us. Yet despite the city relentlessly reinventing and renovating itself, it tries to maintain its connection to its past. Despite high taxes, the people value their country's ability to plan and prosper. They take pride in their country's stability.

Meanwhile, Orchard Road is still a buzz, crowds shopping, tourist gawking.

At the end of our overnight stay we met up with my brother's family. The last time I saw some of my nieces was ten years ago. Suddenly, it feels like missing links were brought together making a picture perfect situation that brought joy and happiness. There’s lots of excitement and I cannot describe it in words. Family stories and memories were discussed and I wondered when I would meet them all again.

Call it nostalgia but each time I visit Singapore, I think of the taste, the people, its progress, living standard, safety, and its relatively easy way to get around. Singapore was my home before and it will always have a place in my heart.
