For The Love Of Nature- Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

Scarlet macaws calls Costa Rica home.

Puerto Limon, Province of Limon, Costa Rica Sunday, January 8, 2017

Anyone spending any amount of time in Costa Rica would know that "Puro Vida" or Pure Life Is synonymous with Costa Rica. That's the phrase that greeted us at the port terminal in Puerto Limon. We were excited to be back and we looked for our guide Freedom. After meeting up with him outside the port terminal, we agreed to explore other parts of Puerto Limon that we had not seen before and also to go take a hike at Cahuita National Park.

We started hitting the road towards the Playa Negra and Playa Blanca, our eyes were wide open in anticipation of of the amazing view. It's absolutely amazing to see lush tropical jungle followed afterwards by hectares and hectares of banana plantation.

Both Playa Blanca and Playa Negra is about twenty five (25) minutes away from the port. It is a bit hidden though and we had to pas through an unmarked dirt road. There were small bumps on the road, but otherwise, it was flat and smooth. Our guide Freedom, said, " the local government do not want to pave the road so it will remain popular amongst the tourist."

Playa Blanca has fluffy white sand and clear turquoise water while Playa Negra has black sand and lofty palm trees. What makes it more unique are Macaw

parrots flying overhead occasionally.

From there, we went to Cahuita National park in search of howler monkeys. It is one of the most amazing National Park we've seen. It is lying on Costa Rica's stunningly beautiful Caribbean coast and facing the Atlantic Ocean. The park has white sand and palm trees lined the beach with crystal clear water ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Derived from the word 'kawe' which means mahogany, and 'ta' which means point, the Cahuita National park is the habitat of several ecological zones, including a swamp forest, rain forest, and coastal flora. During our hike, we saw a sloth on a coconut tree, lots of monkeys and several bird species including ibises, gulls and kingfishers.
